I am an expert, it’s true. Taylor blast you and your proper prepositional statement. I don’t even know what that means, but I am still an expert so deal with it! You and your wonderful mustache. Okay, probably to much.
Bethany and I did as much preparation for the class as possible but there comes a point where you have to jump in and go! We taught the level 2 at 7:30 to a class of 11 students, 3 students did not show on day 1 but I expect them day 2. Before teaching we sat down in the common area and spoke to a few people. Bethany talked to a woman from the Sudan and I spoke with a man who lived in Jordan but was from Iraq. He introduced me to his daughter and his wife. His wife will be taking Jim Hendersons level 2 class. However since we hit it off with her husband she offered to bake us an apple pie “YES PLEASE!!!!” I am hoping to go to coffee with this man tomorrow so God willing that will work out. He was a very kind man and had a wonderful family. The daughter was sad that we were not going to be the teachers of her class, she was very nice. I promised her we would do something with her family before we left.
Teaching was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be. We connected with the students through personal stories. We told about ourselves, what we like to do, what is our job, etc. There were a few times I was even able to make the students laugh which was cool. I’m told humor doesn’t often translate, but physical humor does. I discussed how I grew a beard so I would fit in while in the Middle East but have only seen 3 or 4. luckily one man was in my class with a beard so we became beard buddies. I also told them of my 9 broken bones and defined the word “clumsy” as myself because I fall a lot. Luckily they laughed in all the right places and not at me *COUGHlikemyyouthkidsCOUGH* I had good discussions and look forward to having more conversations with our students. We had a good time teaching, tomorrow Bethany will take the reigns a little more. My incredibly dynamic and charismatic *successfully back patted* ways took a little to much time. For this class Bethany sat with the one girl in our class which was probably very nice for the girl. I can’t wait to see what new adventures tomorrow will bring.
Tomorrow we will be going to the site of Jesus’ baptism, Mt. Nebo (where Moses went to look over the promised Land) and Madaba. I am very excited and we will be sure to get tons of pictures and video. Pray for us that we would have safe travels, not get dehydrated and would have enough energy to give to our students.
Quote of the Day
Student: “Brown is not my favorite color.” Bryce: “You do realize your pants and your shirt are brown right?”
In Christ,
