Today was by far the longest day of this mission trip. We were out and about in Ensenada from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. But time flies when you’re having fun! We got a midday treat by eating at the taco shop we visited on the 1st day, I got pork tacos again. Delicious!
During the day we did all the normal activities: VBS, Construction, Painting and Sports Ministry. The crew installing the new pergo floor in the sanctuary finished around 4:15 and it looked incredible. Great work guys! The entire building finished getting painted around the same time and it es muy bonita! After eating some delicious food, including fresh churros, we were gearing up for the night service.
Yesterday before we left Rocky Burris and our translator went out inviting people in the community to the church service we had at 5:30. Many of the communities children and parents came. It was a full house, or basketball court, seeing as that’s where we actually met.
My big role in the program tonight aside from the typical video taping was leading worship in the service singing “Open the Eyes of My Heart.” Back when our church went to Y.U.G.O. some 15 years ago I sung this song in Spanish. I had forgotten most of it but decided I wanted to do the same. I sung through the song in Spanish and English while the congregation joined in. It was a huge blessing. I was glad I stepped out from behind my camera for a moment and tried something different, something out of my comfort zone. Obviously playing guitar and singing is not, but doing it in another language can be a little unnerving. Aside from one incident saying “Abre mis hijos” instead of “Abre mis ojos” I did pretty well. By the way, “hijos” means children. So I essentially said “open my children, oh God.
A highlight of the service for me was when Brianna gave her testimony. Don’t worry, I got it on video so you can see it too! She did a wonderful job, spoke very well and I believe had a great impact on our team as well as the local church.
This trip has been a blessing, I’m very thankful Brianna and I were given the opportunity to go to Mexico this year and I can’t wait to come back next year.
